What Is The Procedure For a Dental Implant?

In dental implant procedures, you replace the tooth roots of your teeth with metal-made tooth posts. Implants are different from crowns and bridges; they appear and perform like natural teeth. It includes the following steps.

Initial Evaluation

Dental Implant

Firstly, your oral surgeon or dentist takes a comprehensive examination to determine which implant procedure is best for you. It consists of X-rays, color matching (the shade of the teeth to make it look like the natural teeth), and determining the space where the dental implant is needed. Your dentist will discuss the whole process and diagnose if you suffer from other diseases. It includes further planning steps with other specialists that depend upon your dental health. You must discuss your medications and have an antibiotic before the surgery.

Tooth Extraction:

If you have a tooth that needs a replacement, it will be done through surgical removal. Your dentist may use an anesthesia option to reduce the pain. It includes the anesthetic of Lidocaine or Novocaine to numb the specific area. When the tooth is extracted, you feel a bit of pressure or tug. It would be best if you avoided smoking, blowing your nose after extraction because these actions can cause pain.

Bone Grafting:

When you are having the implant added o your jawbone, you have a strong jawbone, and there is no need to add any extra bone. Your jaw must be strong enough to protect the implant. If your jaw needs more bone, your doctor will add it from another area to the jaw. In case if you had a bone graft before the implant, you firstly wait for the bone to heal. This process can take 3 to 9 months for a person to carry.

Abutment Placement:

When your implant is stable, your dentist will add an abutment on the top of your implant. It is used to connect the implant with your crown. It must be tight enough to not move from its place when you start eating and give a stable implant. You must get a bit of anesthesia during this process around the area. There is just a little pressure in this process without any severe pain. You will need to discuss with your dentist how to mask this piece? Because it will be visible and will show when you smile. On top of the abutment, your doctor will place a healing cap to facilitate bone and tissue growth.

Addition of Permanent Crown:

After this process, your dentist will create an artificial tooth. It is your choice to choose a removable or permanent implant. If you have multiple teeth to clean and replace, you need the removable option. You can not replace or clean a permanent implant.

Conclusion:

Dental implants take just a few steps and don't leave any after-effects, so they are way safer than temporary teeth. In comparison, other dental treatments need a lot of visits to the clinic to get them done correctly.
