What To Expect From A Dental Crown Procedure

A Dental crown procedure is a great way of protecting a tooth that has been damaged or that has become diseased overtime. The good news is that a dental crown placement can be done in just a few office visits with each lasting about an hour or less. The first step in having a dental crown placed includes having an assessment. This may involve x-rays as well as a general examination before the crown work can begin. If a tooth is too weak to accept a crown or requires root canal therapy first then these things must be considered also.

The Dental Laboratory Is Where The Final Crown Will Be Custom-Made

The next step involves preparing the tooth. Local anesthesia is applied and then the tooth is filed down to the size necessary to accept a temporary cap and ultimately the permanent crown. Your dentist will take an impression of the tooth and then send that off to the dental laboratory where the final crown will be custom-made. In most instances the crafting of the crown will take about two weeks. A crown is an excellent way of protecting a tooth and ensuring that the natural tooth underneath the crown stays healthy and lasts a long time.
